Open the Kins Camera fast · Saving originals
iOS doesn't let you change the default camera app, but you can put "Open Kins Camera" on the Action button or in Control Center and get there in one press. On a Galaxy, set the side button's double press to open Kins. Every photo and video you take with the Kins camera also saves the unfiltered original to Photos.
On iPhone
iOS doesn't let you change the default camera app. Instead, from Kins 4.1.0, "Open Kins Camera" is already in the Shortcuts app, Siri and Spotlight, so you can put it in any of these places without building a shortcut yourself.
- Action button (iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 and later): Settings › Action Button › Shortcut › "Open Kins Camera". Press and hold the button and the Kins camera opens.
- Control Center (iOS 18 or later): open Control Center, touch and hold › Add a Control › Shortcuts › "Open Kins Camera".
- Lock Screen (iOS 18 or later): the buttons at the bottom of the Lock Screen can use the same Shortcuts control. Touch and hold the Lock Screen and tap Customize to swap one. Opening Kins from there asks you to unlock first.
- Or ask Siri to "Open Kins Camera", or search for "Kins Camera" in Spotlight.
- If you don't see it in the list, open Kins once and look again.
On Android and Galaxy
- Touch and hold the Kins icon and tap "Camera" to go straight to the camera. You can drag "Camera" to your home screen, too.
- Galaxy side button: Settings › Advanced features › Side button › Double press › Open app › Kins. Double-press the side button and Kins opens.
- When another app opens the camera, you can pick Kins, and the Kins camera opens.
Your originals are saved to Photos
Every photo you take with the Kins camera saves the original, before any filter, to Recents in your Photos app right away. Camcorder videos work the same way. You choose filters after you shoot, so the original is still there if none of them feels right.
- On iPhone, Kins asks once, the first time you shoot, whether it can add photos to your library. The originals are saved only if you allow it.
- Kins doesn't make a separate album. Originals land in Recents like any other photo.
- The filtered photo is saved only when you tap Save in the camera. Save both and you get the original and the filtered one side by side.
- Photos you pick from your library to post are already on your phone, so Kins doesn't save them again.
Turning off original saving
Open Kins, go to Settings and turn off "Save originals to Photos". It works the same on iPhone and Android.
- It's on to begin with. Once it's off, new photos and videos you take don't save an original.
- The switch only applies to the phone you change it on. To turn it off on another phone, switch it off there too.
- Turning off Photos access for Kins in your iPhone's Settings also stops you from picking photos for a new post. If you only want to stop the originals, use the switch in Kins.
